The thermal engine: how the Alizé works
Essaouira's wind is powered by the Alizé — the northeasterly trade driven by Atlantic high pressure. As the Saharan interior heats by day, rising hot air draws cooler ocean air into the bay.

Essaouira Main Bay (Plage Tagharte)
Level: all levels. Wind: side / side-onshore from the right (port tack). Bottom: pure sand.
The 4 km bay is protected by Mogador Island. North near the port: flat to choppy. South near Oued Ksob: fun small kickers. Side-onshore wind is a safety net — you drift back to the wide beach.

Sidi Kaouki
Level: intermediate to advanced. Wind: side / side-onshore. Bottom: fine sand with scattered rock ledges.
25 km south — stronger, un-sheltered Atlantic wind and larger swell. Fast rights and lefts across ~5 km of beach. Currents strengthen on big swell days.
Moulay Bouzerktoun
Level: advanced to expert. Wind: side-offshore to side-onshore (very strong in summer). Bottom: sharp limestone platform.
25 km north — legendary for wave-kiters and pro windsurfers. Hollow waves over a shallow shelf: launch ramps and barrels. Needs precise kite control over rock.
Cap Sim and downwind runs
Level: intermediate to advanced.
Launch south of Cap Sim's headland and ride ~12 km downwind along the dunes into Essaouira Bay — one of Morocco's classic coastal downwinders. Ask coaches via contact or reservation.
