Essaouira Main Bay (Plage Tagharte)
Level: beginner to low-intermediate. Bottom: pure sand. Tide: low to mid. Swell: west / northwest, 2–6 ft.
The bay curves along the promenade, partly shielded by Mogador Island (Îles Purpuraires). Soft, rolling, forgiving waves — no rocks, no heavy currents. This is the premier place in North Africa to learn to surf.

Sidi Kaouki
Level: all levels (peak and size). Bottom: fine sand with rock and reef patches. Tide: mid. Swell: northwest, 3–8 ft.
25 km south, a bohemian village and about 5 km of coast.
Main Beach: wide sandy break with fast rights and lefts.
The Marabout (Shrine): fun A-frame over sand-covered reef in front of the white Sufi shrine.
La Grotte & La Bouteille: north of the village — faster, hollower walls over rock ledges for intermediate and advanced surfers.

Cap Sim (the point and cave)
Level: intermediate to advanced. Bottom: sand-covered rock and boulder point. Tide: low to rising mid. Swell: large west / northwest, 6 ft+.
Access via 4x4 through pine forest and dunes. On heavy winter swell, Cap Sim fires long peeling right-hand walls that section down the beach — rides over 200 meters.

Moulay Bouzerktoun
Level: advanced to expert. Bottom: sharp flat limestone and urchin-covered reef. Tide: high tide only (low tide exposes dry shelves). Swell: medium west, early winter mornings with zero wind.
World-famous as a windsurf mecca, Moulay is also an exceptional paddle-surf wave on calm winter mornings: fast, hollow, steep drops and barrels. Not for beginners.
Tafedna
Level: intermediate. Bottom: sand and cobble riverbed. Tide: low to mid. Swell: large northwest.
A traditional fishing village 60 km south, tucked behind headlands. It magnets swell while staying sheltered from north wind — long clean lines under dramatic cliffs. We run it as a guided surf trip.

Rental shops exist on Essaouira Bay and in Sidi Kaouki, but high-performance shortboards and specialty fins are harder to find. Bring your own leash, extra cold/cool wax, and a basic ding-repair kit.

Moroccan surfers are warm and welcoming — standard etiquette still applies. At quality points like Cap Sim and Moulay, respect locals, never drop in or snake, and share the peak.
