In 2016, El Mehdi Foum-Errabah placed his first surfboards on the golden sand of Sidi Kaouki, a few kilometres south of Essaouira. Passionate about surfing since age 8 on these same beaches, he dreamed of sharing the magic of Moroccan waves with the world.

What started as a simple surf school quickly became an international reference. Essaouira's unique combination — UNESCO medina, year-round waves, authentic Moroccan culture — creates the perfect playground for an unforgettable watersports experience.

Today, Book Surf Camp Essaouira welcomes more than 500 students each year from over 40 countries. Our oceanfront lodge, IKO and ISA certified instructors, and commitment to excellence and safety make us one of Morocco's most recognised schools.

Beyond the numbers, what drives us every morning is the smile of a beginner standing on their first wave, the spark in a rider's eyes as they progress, and the lasting friendships born around a beach sunset.

IKO, ISA & safety training

We follow and teach official international federation programmes. Our instructors regularly complete IKO and ISA refresher courses, plus safety, first aid, and aquatic rescue modules.

IKO — International Kiteboarding Organization

Global kitesurf certification programme: discovery, levels 1–3, assistant instructor and instructor. Digital IKO card issued at each validated milestone. Standardised progression recognised at all IKO schools worldwide.

ISA — International Surfing Association

International reference for surf instruction: levels 1 (beginner), 2 (intermediate), and 3 (advanced/instructor). Structured pedagogy, continuous assessment, and official ISA certification at the end of each module.

Safety & rescue

Sea rescue training, open-water emergency management, first aid (PSC1 equivalent), marine weather analysis, and evacuation protocols. Safety is not optional — it is the foundation of every lesson.

Safety at the heart of every session

Before every lesson we analyse conditions: wind, swell, tide, currents, and crowd. No session starts without a level- and discipline-matched safety briefing.

Mandatory briefing

Weather, spot, priority rules, emergency signals, and rescue plan explained to every group before entering the water.

Controlled ratios

Maximum 6 students per instructor for beginner surf, 4 for kids, 2 for beginner kitesurf — for individual attention.

Safe equipment

Soft-edge boards, leashes, buoyancy aids for beginners, quick-release harnesses for kite.

Emergency protocol

First aid kit on the beach, radio communication, local emergency numbers posted, rescue-trained instructors.

Diplomas & attestations

When you complete your training, you leave with recognised certification — not just a memory, but official proof of your level.

ISA surf diploma

Official ISA certification after skills validation by level (1, 2, or 3). Internationally recognised, it attests to your autonomy and technique on the wave.

IKO kitesurf card

Digital IKO card with QR code, updated at each validated milestone. Levels 1–3, assistant and instructor — the global kitesurf standard.

Surf & rescue attestation

Document attesting participation in an aquatic safety and rescue module, complementing surf or kite technical certification.

Wingfoil level attestation
